18:30, unHappy Hour

In the last weeks Italy is facing a serious, important issue: coronavirus is not only affecting more and more people everyday, but it’s also changing our everyday life.

One of the most trivial, but at the same time representative aspects is the so called “Spritz ritual”, which usually takes place in each and every bar or pub everyday at the same time: from 18 to 20 in the evening.

A couple of days ago, a decree imposed the closure of all these pubs and clubs at 18 o’clock. Living in Cittadella, a small town in Northern Italy, I decided to take my bike and go for a half an hour ride to photograph every bar (we got 16 bars in our town center) at 18:30. The images hereunder can be read as a metaphor of the crisis we are facing these days. Economy and everyday life overturned by the virus.

All pics have been taken during a bike ride between 18:15 and 18:45 with my Fuji X100V. All the pubs and bars were closed, of course.
